CJST EXPANDS BOARDReorganization and Expansion of Board Allows For Greater Diversity in EventsEarlier this summer we regrouped and redesigned how things at the CJST work with the goal of seeing more of our members out to a greater variety of events. We think we’ve been doing a pretty good job and that you’ll like what you’ll see. We kicked off the summer season with the Annual General Meeting. Prior to the meeting each Board Member was asked to compile a list of people that they felt would like to be more involved with the organization. We had set a goal of expanding the Board and ended up with 22 people who have been working really hard to organize some amazing events and be part of the decisions made at the Board level. We’d like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the Board. We’ve got a bunch of die-hards that were more than willing to stay on for another year. Here's the rundown of returnees: The infamous Rob Bracey returns as our brilliant President (and awesome third baseman!). Margaret Buckworth remains as Secretary and event co-ordinator. Ann Parkin switched from Social Director to Newsletter Director, taking over from John Harris who is now a Director. We're honoured to be still be working with Ted Goossen (even though he’s currently on sabbatical), Rick Wolfe, Michael Donnelly, Alan Middleton and Gary Turner as directors. Membership is still being done by Scott Rutherford. Rob Tran has passed the Treasurer reins on to Margaret Cornish-Kehoe (President 1992-1995) and is now our marketing guy. Rob’s role is to get the CJST name out there and expand our reputation as the best Canada-Japan link in Toronto! And ... Earl Burt remains our liaison to the JET Alumni Association. We welcomed nine new members to the Board this year. Mr. Masao Okajima, Consul from the Japanese Consulate has joined as a Director. New to the CJST Board as Event Co-ordinators are John Leblanc of McMillan Binch; Royal Bank's Fumiko Shiba; Lorraine Manners, who did an awesome job with the Bunka Olympics evening we held for the Canadian Olympic Association; and Alan Bresgi of JETRO. Webmaster Bruce Thomson of Ontario Hydro is now officially on the Board. Bruce and fellow webmaster Tadaaki Hiruki have done a fantastic job of keeping CJSTers up to date with the website, which can now be found at www.cjst.org. It is a wealth of information for our members to keep in touch with what we’re up to and linked to a tonne of Japan-related information. Ken Bole joined as Directory Co-ordinator and together with Scott Rutherford did a stellar job of putting the membership directory together. Dai-ichi Kangyo Bank’s Hiroko Yoshihashi took over the Ichimoku-kai Co-ordinator position so you can see her at Sushi Bistro the first Thursday of every month. Kim Schroeder, a teacher with the North York Board of Education has taken on the role of Supper Club Director. As you can see we have an extraordinarily well-rounded group of people who are responsible for making sure that the CJST is offering something to all our members. Keep reading to see the events that we've brought to you over the last few months and the great things we have planned for Winter 98.
